This is what I know in C++
passing and returning functions
operator overloading
stack, heap

I know the basics...and I feel like when I want to go into directX i feel like im jumping right into the deep end with nothing to hold on to...I feel like I am missing something. There are so many things in DirectX

Creating a device from the COM..
init these huge structures for creating the device, the swap chain, and many other structures I dont know about yet.
how directx functions return values by manipulating the address of pointers being passed by reference in the functions...

What I am trying to say is the huge "paradigm" shift from command prompt to learning a little about creating a win32 window, understanding how the operating system sends messages to winproc, to Learning directX.

What resources can you provide me with to make this paradigm shift easier...

You can avoid the complexity of DirectX by focusing on using the game engine provided on the website and described throughout the book.
