In the audio for the books game engine does it support anything that can pause music, the reason being my team is creating a game and the soundtrack is specifically set to a certain length to lead up to the boss fight, but when I pause the game because the sound does not pause and then carry on it messes up the timing.

Is there anything in this engine that can help with that or does anyone have any advice on what I can add in?

XACT in DirectX9 does not directly support a Pause feature. As I was looking over the XACT features I had an idea that might work. I'll need to do some testing first. I'll post here if I get something to work.
